I'm obviously a United fan, but I view Fletch coming back as the worst thing that could happen. It's the main reason we didn't get a central midfielder last year, and the hope that he could return is probably the reason we're not getting a central midfielder this year. He will NEVER reach the peaks of his career, which were almost 3 years ago now.

He was good for maybe 18 months of an 8 year career. Of which about 12 were good enough to be a starter in a top 2 or 3 team. I like him for his dedication, but he's never been truly good enough to be a first choice for Manchester United. Just having good energy (which he probably won't anymore) is no substitute for true class. See Scholes, Paul.

I guess given that Fergie seems to still not want to bother replacing our once awesome midfield, at least having Fletch on the bench is better than a Fabio/Park combo, but still, it's beyond ridiculous.
 
Well, not every fairy-tale finishes on top. They missed out on the tile to MONTPELLIER HERAULT SC !!!!! . They had to respond this season and go all out like C£ty did :P

I agree with somewhat PLF, Paris is a beautiful city lots to do. Chelsea winning the CL regardless how they did it . A PL club did it that makes this league 'one'of the best. Chelsea 6 place won the double! We had MUTD to win and Liverpool too 5th spot at the time. This is a very hard league to win a cup/trophy!

Im not knocking Ligue1 they have many exciting players coming up . I think with time PSG is helping to bring excitement to the league. It`s a difference btw years n light years apart though no pun intended .

Totally agree with what beachryan said regarding exciting young talent joining the new-rich clubs. These kids are too overrated, thus no mid-table team in Europe can afford them, but at the same time they're too green to be in the the first XI for the main teams.
So what you get is what you saw happening with the likes of Lukaku, who could have done wonderfully in a mid-table team, but instead has been left out of action and this must be hurting his development, big time. This is the worst case scenario, because he's not even being loaned out to other clubs. Such a waste!
Now I fear the same will happen to Oscar, having signed for Chelsea.

No your a tool box who hasnt a clue... Three years ago half of the city squad would have died to be at PSG, Lyon, or marseille. It took wads of cash to bring anyone decent, besides the likes of samaras, Barton, and Demarcus Beasley, LOL

Anyways...cocks in lads because I dont think we will be signing Lucas or Van Persie as of now.

PSG has got their eyes on Lucas and that's that.
Van Persie might just be doing a 'Rooney' and stay with Arsenal for at least one more season.

I believe we might just sign another player or two but not those of a 'marquee' type signing.

Cannot wait for the new season to start nonetheless, less than 2 weeks now.

We can all point to bad buys. TBH, I think the likes of Anelka, Kompany, Zabaleta, SWP, Joe Hart could be considered decent players but then again I'm just a tool box :FAIL:

His point was that you say PSG shouldn't be a first choice club just because of money and slated the level the club competes at (French league and Champs League), but you seemingly have forgotten that before the money at City they were no more than a Mid-Table club barely threatening European places in fact between 2002-2009 they failed to finish above 6h spot (generally accepted European places are 1st to 6th) and so in effect between these years (and several year prior) any player City wanted would rather join PSG as a footballing future because the Ligue 1 you slated in your post were a much more succesful outfit than City could dream of being.

His point is it took City throwing obscene amounts of cash at players for them to turn a blind eye to other clubs interest, something you seem to have slated PSG for doing, and that without your money you would NEVER attract players such as Silva, Aguero and Yaya Touré.

Basically you slating PSG and Ligue 1 clubs is a disgrace, you appear to have forgotten your clubs complete lack of a succesful History since the late 60's to early 70's. While these French clubs continued to grow in stature, granted PSG are a bad example they are very much the Man City of France. But they still have a much more succesful recent history than City. Don't forget your roots, your history and your place, cause if you let the new money shroud your clubs past and forget that your club can't be called a historic club yet, then you forget that the (United slate coming) Shadow of The Devils still covers you, you may be building something, but Fergie and United will keep the red flags flying high my friend, our club is one of history which we take pride in remembering ( the good, the bad and the downright tragic) and Sheikh billionaire can come in and buy us a future because we have built one on the success we enjoyed by BECOMING the best not BUYING the best.

1. I never slated PSG as a club
2. I didn't even mention their money or transfer policy.

I stated a fact that the French League is not as big a league as the English or Spanish (or German or Italian) leagues. City are completely irrelevant to everything I wrote. The fact that people straight away rant on about City says everything.

In short, argue against my post, don't argue against my avatar. It's irrational.

That's how all of them sugar daddies teams will end up. Sheikhs get bored of pumping own money into club, go away, club goes busted ;).

I wonder if many City fans took that into consideration? Or did the money spent cover their eyes on the truth? :)

I think all football clubs bought by sugar daddies believe that their club will be able to finance its self with success even after the Sheiks get bored, they don't realise the extent of the financial damage the owners achieve all the same..

No, you all don't understand. City is a 'PROJECT'. Unlike all other unsustainable, loss-driven enterprises it is different. It has an 'ELITE DEVELOPMENT' squad and they're 'INVESTING IN THE COMMUNITY'.

Nothing can go wrong.

On a United front, we're playing some Catalan team today. Wonder if Fergie will notice that thing they have, erm, what's it called, oh a midfield!
 
Yeah the funny thing about these "projects" is that you never know when sustainability will ever kick in.

Chelsea was meant to be self-suficient by 2010. By the start of 2011, they broke a record by signing Torres for £50m.

Maybe Abramovich didn't count on Sheikh Mansur taking over City and next thing you know, they're trying to outspend each other. This could go on for a while.

But imagine the devastation it will cause to either club when one of them gets bored. Who will be paying Yaya's and Aguero's £200k a week?
 
I somehow don't think they'll just walk away when they get bored. They'll probably pass the clubs down the family so the wealth will be there to stay and be used unless someone actually does something sensible to limit it.

Not sure their ego's would let them walk away - particularly as losing £100m a year to some of them is probably akin to us dropping a tenner once a year - but I doubt they'll continue to invest the way they have. Actually screw that word, it's not investment, it's just paying for the club. Investment implies return, and the Sheikh's will never get return out of City.

I reckon they will get to a point where they're are only sustaining the club (paying bills, wages and other day to day costs) and not paying out for new players etc, so the club doesn't die but they don't make as much of a loss
 
The Sheiks are so rich even if they get bored they'll probably stop spending cash but will let the club try to run itself.

akin to us having £5 a month go out our bank accounts for some charity you signed up for years ago and can't be bothered to close.

There are clubs which are RICH, but SPEND wisely and there are those, which want instant success no matter the money spent. The 2nd one is the worst shit happening to football in general. There is no such thing as youth academy there, not that they need it anyway when they can buy any player.

That's why I was in awe with Holland teams and France teams back in the days. Growing their OWN players. Right now I think only Barcelona does that with some success ;).

United are still trying in vain to do this, but all our talented players are being pulled away by money on offer elsewhere -.-
 
Well, that kagawi bloke is a gem! Barca played wonderful and took the ball back once they lost it. I still think the fear factor for them is gone. As a neutral Mutd in the 2nd half was all over them. I think Fergie knows what`s needed Nani and Valencia look sharp. Anderson was better ,e looks healthy ,but Carrick was a beast at the back . Is he a DM or a CM that sits back?

I thought I would see a broken MUTD ,but I`m not sure why everyone was moaning about. Mutd looks certain again for the title, Vidic,Rio ,Nani, Valencia, Kawagai and Rooney looks to be the core.
 
We'll see. City still have a better squad, and Scholes was once again one of our best players.

I recorded the match so will watch when done with work. Will be interested in seeing Kagawa - has gotten good reviews. Also DDG was apparently on form.

Odd pre season though, only 3 goals in 5 matches. Normally we score loads.

Fergie has confirmed Arsenal have our bid for RvP, and that he's blown away by the size of PSG's Moura price tag.

I don't think Utd are certain for the title. Still think we have a stronger core. You signing RVP will make it interesting. TBH, I don't want RVP at City but at the same time I don't really want to see him at Utd! Would be nice if he did a U-turn and stayed at Arsenal as they've made some good signings (particularly Cazorla)
