I've been saying this for a while now. It's easy to overlook when we're winning but I can't think of another big European team that we're on the same level as that plays mediocre football like us.
 
Same as last two years of Fergie's reign. Definitely the worst 'best' team in European football.

But, how many other clubs have had £600m taken out of them in the last decade and done better?

The last time we were in the top 10 spenders in European football in a summer was the year of Ando, Nani, Hargreaves. That was 7 years ago.

To put it more frank - our wage bill is 50% less than Barcelona's, 40% lower than Real Madrid's and 20% lower than City and Chelsea. We only spent £5k more on wages last year than Liverpool.

So we're still a European heavyweight in terms of marketing dollars brought in, but not in what we spend on our team. Hate to be boring, but that is what football tends to come down to. According to that report, we're spend closer to Aston Villa than to Barca/Real.

You don't need a great deal of money to play entertaining football. What you do need is a manager with a philosophy that attempts to do that and can get his players to play in that style.

Fergie went for style at the start of 2011/12 but shut up shop once we were tonked by City. The signing of RvP only exacerbated that as he's never struck up a reliable understanding with Rooney, as well as our wingers being shite for a while and our team never being drilled to press as a unit off the ball.

We also need to get Fellaini to cut his hair and go on a ref sucking up routine. Because that man is positively persecuted by referees. I didn't watch Everton enough to know if it was the same there, but both domestically and in Europe this year he gets calls against him that are not even close to fouls. He conceded 4 free kicks tonight that weren't even similar to him having done anything wrong. And then because he didn't go to ground clutching his face when getting hit by Medel, we concede.

I'd love to read that ref's match report:

20 mins: And then W. Rooney (United) kicked out at a player fouling him. It was only a little kick out, so I gave him a yellow.

89 mins: And then I pulled up G. Medel and M. Fellaini after seeing Medel punch Fellaini in the face. But Medel is very little and Fellaini has funny hair, so I thought I'd tell Fellaini that he needs to stop getting hit in the face, and let Cardiff take the free kick.

We don't have "your" resources and for a side like us we played pretty well today. We didn't deserve a point? Punched in the face? That wasn't a punch where I come from. Think you are going well overboard with that. Open fist for starters! Raising his hands was wrong of course but you carry on with the over exaggeration. Rooney should have been sent off so you were lucky he was on the pitch to score and have 11 men for most of the game.

I actually have no idea why he was booed. You get idiots at all clubs but there were plenty more clapping him than what booed him.
Probably the Liverpool supporting Cardiff fans or as mentioned the TeamGB thing. Ramsey won't get booed as he's an Ex player. Just braindead idiots who can just be ignored.

You had four shots on goal in the entire match, and scored from two of them. That's awesome conversion, but Tom Cleverley created as many clear cut chances for you in the second half as your own team.

You fought hard and were decent, but I thought both teams were terrible. Couldn't pass, couldn't create and couldn't shoot. It was a woeful indictment of how poor the quality of premier league football can be. The moment United realised they needed to actually do something, they should easily have gone ahead again.

Haha, don't have a Sky feed, but apparently Martin Tyler mentioned the Rooney incident more than 50 times in the remainder of his match commentary. That is dedication to a talking point!

Draw was a fair result on the game we saw. The real issue is that the game we should have seen was a game in which Utd were playing with 10 men for 75mins and without their best player and only real serious attacking threat. Of course the Rooney incident is the main talking point. The fact that he scored shortly after makes it all the more meaningful.

Not wanting to force the point, but we've won plenty of matches with 10 men down the years. Should have been a red, wasn't, but I'd of thought Welbeck missing a sitter, Rooney failing to pass a ball 3 feet or both teams sheer inability to pass the ball were just as big factors in deciding the match. We'll never know.

What I do know is that in all of my years of following United, there have been literally dozens of times a ref could have - but didn't - send of an opposition player early in a game, and no one will be able to name them. But this will be just like the Wigan incident from almost 4 years ago. Sky will ensure the world remembers the day Rooney kicked out and got a yellow.
 
Don't get me starting about the Wigan incident. That was one of the most outrageous things i've ever seen on a football pitch. Rooney should have got a 10 match ban for that. The ball was nowhere near him and the Wigan player.

If one does this on the street, it's a jail sentence...

I haven't seen yesterday's match, but what he did against Wigan and the fact that he came away with it was class justice...i'm watching 40 years of football and that is the worst thing i've ever seen, oh and i haven't seen or heard one second of Sky in my entire life...i don't need Sky to see what happened there.

I'm sorry for this rant. And people here might remember that at the beginning of the season i was one the people who defended Rooney, saying that he was a fantastic and underestimated team player who is in some way the victim of his own versatility...but Wigan was dreadfull and i would have said exactly the same thing if Kevin De Bruyne or Modric had done that... I hope this is the last time i've written about this incident (it is not the way i will remember Rooney when he hangs up his boots, he is a lovely player).

Beach, you should learn to loose with style. If a team like Cardiff wins a draw against mMn Utd, that is always an achievement. You are always the first to point out the difference in resources between Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd. Well, maybe look at the difference between Man Utd and Cardiff...Congratulations to Cardiff...

Forgetting the red card/s, Utd winning wouldn't have been a huge injustice or anything. Just watching the game I thought Cardiff matched Utd in general play and had a chance or two of their own as well.

Utd may still have won with 10 but it does make it harder, esp. when it's Rooney and there's no RVP out there (and Carrick and Rafael)

I said we played good for us. We got the ball down and tried to play. We have a couple of decent players who get the ball down on the deck and try to play to feet. The stats for both of us were very similar according to the ones on BBC Sport so a great conversion rate from United too. Shots on/off target and 50/50 possession. I'll take that all day against a club of United's stature. Wouldn't even bother going there when it comes to talking to me about playing good football as I'm a pass and move keep it on the deck kind of guy. My expectations of good football for Cardiff are less than good football for United. United were shit. End of story. We played good for the quality of squad we have and deserved a draw as minimum yesterday. Anybody who thinks different doesn't have a clue or is blinded by loyalty to their own team. Regardless of whether or not United could or should have turned it on to go and get a winner, they didn't. They were very poor. Keep talking bollocks though. Keep saying Medel punched someone... when he didn't. He have him a slap so by saying it was a punch, you definitely are seeing something different to me.

A club up from The Championship who definitely weren't outplayed by the current champions and I'm disappointed we drew after the way we played, I'll take that. Stop your whining as you sound like a spoilt brat.

Edit: And you seem to forget your first goal was gifted to you by a short pass from Turner. Our first was a great goal with 2 lovely passes and and a nice finish. Don't recall many clear cut chances created by United at all. And Campbell hitting bar is classed as off target. Your other chances were more from set pieces. United were disappointing. It happens. Move on but less of the load of rubbish you spouted please. Anybody with half a brain can see you are talking crap by saying we didn't even deserve a draw and Medel punched Side Show Bob.

Yesterday made it once again painfully obvious how dependent we ve been on Carrick, Rafael and RVP, Vidic and of course the awesome motherfucker Jones. Time to clean the house in the summer.

Debatable when he played for us. The amount of caps he should have had compared to what he has doesn't look great. It's only a minority of inbred valley commandos and every club has them so I just choose to ignore them anyway. People asked for a reason and they were talking about the booing on the radio this morning. That's the reason afaik. The majority of fans clapped him btw.
 
I can understand why there is some resentment towards Giggs from the Welsh.

On the other hand, there's no chance he'd still be playing at the top level these days if he did turn out for more friendlies.

He did suffer from recurring hamstring injuries earlier in his career which is probably why he was protected in that way.
 
Yeah but I think the Yoga really helped with that too but obviously getting those breaks during the season saved his legs and allowed him to be fresh for whenever we've needed him.

worried about tomorrow with no RVP and Vidic, just low on confidence that we can go to Germany and get a good result at the minute.
 
Leveurkersen are in excellent shape at home too. Great record there.

A draw would be just fine in my opinion. Funny how groups work out in the CL - ours looks really easy on paper, but because all the teams are able to take points off each other, it's actually harder to qualify. The easiest group to have is one with a terrible team that gets 0 points.

On paper that looks wonderful, BUT, Giggs and Jones behind worry me as always.
