It was one of those days when everything goes wrong for you and everything goes right for them. In the first half they converted 2 free kicks, while we missed one penalty! It's like any shot Ashley Young or Rooney tried would go in.

There was a player today - Cocquelin - that I had never heard of! Still, he wasn't our weak link, he looked better than Diaby, on whom Wenger insists.
SZCZ wasn't at fault either. But Djourou showed us he's not a top 4 level CB.

There's no use in blaming Arshavin's lazyness - he worked hard, got stuck in, even played some hard challenges that could see him receive a 2nd yellow... and he tried offensively.
And we can't blame age and lack of experience. United fielded a lot of youngsters and I think their average was like ours - around 23.
Turns out there's not enough quality in our youths. Traore isn't fit enough to play in the Premiership. Jenkinson is not ready. Our £15m signing Alex Chandelier is no Welbeck. Once again we have to ask ourselves: did we really need to splash all that money on a kid who's not ready? Wouldn't it be better if we used those funds to get proper players for our midfield, or strengthen the defence?
I think spending 15m on a kid is like some sort of long term investment at the bank. For a team with urgent needs, it's 15m we won't be using. Much like the £60m we have in the bank. All that money can't play centre half, can it?

What we should really look into are the club policies, philosophy and defending as a team. Other teams much worse than Arsenal don't expose their keeper like that and don't get caught with their pants down that often.

The worse is yet to come IMO. This is only one match. But it tells us a lot of things. It tells us that if you sell 2 of your best players and don't replace them, instead, buy an unproven 17 year-old and a £3m Korean striker, it might not be good enough. You get found out. And we certainly got found out at the OT.

And Wenger insists that you have first to get your players back (we had 8 of them out) before talking about transfers. I say fuck that. Song, Gervinho, Vermaelen, Wilshere and Sagna could perhaps help to a less humiliating defeat, but I doubt they would change the course of that match. The gap is too wide.

Titles won't come under this current crop of players and the kinds of reinforcements Wenger is trying to bring.
 
Need to calm down, wait for the first XI to come back, bring in 3 players and get on with the season. Sky hasn't fallen, don't let the media convince you it has. Arsenal are still the 4th/ 5th best team in the country, and still overachieve by anyone's measure. Get behind your team and your, quite frankly, legendary coach. He has his faults, but this current situation is not all on him.

Are u crazy!!!! i mean about Arshavin!!!He was total shit made realy poor tackles that could cost other players serious injuries and make our team one man dawn even earlier!!!
He was doing nothing to help Traore , he just switched off when Nani attacked while Walcott when Jenkinson was out of position was tracking back and runing like crazy just to defend!

I agree on you about AOC why the fuck we have to spend 15mil on league one player!! If wenger policy is like this than we certainly need to pay 20mil and pay for Craig Mackail-Smith he was last years top goal scorer(27)!This is just absurd!!!
Whit that maney we could have proven EPL CB not some kind of potential!!!
 
I knew yesterday after seeing our defence and our subs that we were going to get humped, I was hoping we wouldn't, but apart from our attack we had a second string team out (some third string players aswell!)

Liverpool and Man United were playing us at exactly the right time. If the fixtures were kinder to us, it wouldn't be as bad.

When we have the suspended players back and the injured, then I am sure we will pick this up. I just hope this crushing defeat doesn't kill moral, or we could easily go on a spiral.

I am angry though, there is no doubt, seeing your team get humiliated isn't nice.

We have been extremely unlucky at the beginning of this season, but we have put ourself in this situation by not getting other players in sooner. So that is why I am angry, very dissapointing.

We need to come back with a convincing win against Swansea and get this season back...if we draw or lose against Swansea, then I don't think I could handle it.

But this is the exact time to support the team no matter what, get behind them and lift them, that is our job as supporters :))

Not to want to rub salt and all that, but your players are always injured. It's a surprise that RvP is even still walking! Unless the club splurges on 3 or 4 top,top players I really think you will be fighting with Spurs for 5th.

Chelsea are grinding results out, as usual, and are likely to get better, Liverpool are doing fine and are bedding in 4 new players with a couple of really good ones to come back (Gerrard, Johnson and Meireles) and City and Utd look like they are in a mad sprint to win the league.

Obviously it's really early, but the general signs point to a two horse race for 1st, 3rd and 5th imo.

@ Airjoca, yep. And they didn't have their 1st choice defenders for the 3 of the positions aswell.

Some players are always injured, but not to the extent as now and combined with the players suspended. Our first team is still good enough for top 4, just our back up players aren't. So I agree we need another 3 players at least.

If Wenger doesn't bring anybody in, then we are in trouble. Only two days left to get them in though, not looking too good.

our squad needs beefing up with experienced players.

Wenger is a great manager imo, but Ferguson is on another level, the amount of teams he has produced consistantly and the amount of success he has to be the greatest manager ever imo.

His young side look like world beaters already, he spends the money when it is needed and he has had that back up from the board aswell which is always nice.

Arsenal are in a mess at the moment, but I think it can be turned around quickly, but we need reinforcements without a doubt.
 
Traore is useless, but we need to have back up for left back! Gibbs is always injured.

We could probably get away with putting a paper cup at left back though, instead of Traore.

I can't agree more. He's still young, but watching him in Juve last season, he couldn't even make a simple cross.
 
I've a lot of respect for Wenger, but one thing I've noticed a lot with him is his reaction to losing, he really looks like a lost man, I worry that he passes that onto his players.
 
He does, I said that months ago that this man is a NERVOUS wreck! Anyone notice his facial expressions and body language even BEFORE the kick-off and during it in most matches these days?! It's like in his head he knows the worse could happen and is just crossing his fingers HOPING (rather than KNOWING) it won't happen and that things will go well.

That's the biggest difference between him and Sir Alex in my opinion.

Fergie EXPECTS to win and knows/thinks it will happen and very few times it doesn't, Wenger HOPES his team does well.

The man is stiff, rigid, stubborn and just nervous! How can young players get confidence from that? If their coach seems nervous, imagine how a 17 year old Ex-League One RB will feel at Theatre of Dreams playign against the champs.

Wenger's nervous and stiff, tense Body Language says it all!

I don't blame Jenkinson and co. so much, I blame Wenger!

And I agree with what Edmundo keeps bringing up about stripping the squad of any real depth and replacing it with unwavering and exaggerated faith in unproven youth.

It's one thing to sell your 2 best players in Fab and Nasri who are game-changers and two of the few in this squad who could actually be considered World-Class, and everyone keeps mentioning that. But it's entirely another and NO WORSE, when guys like Clichy and Eboue are sold without replacements! Those 2 are no world-beaters, but they're FAR SUPERIOR to what Arsenal currently has!

So people can go on and on about how this was a 2nd or 3rd string side and how they were injuries and suspension to Gervinho, bad luck, etc. and yeah all of that is true to some extent but at the end of the day, this result was brought upon by none other than Mr. Arsene Wenger himself for HAVING such a THIN squad in the first place. For having signed no one till so late! For having had players leave him and not as many wanting to join him....

The man has made a LOT of costly mistakes over the past 2-3 years. I still love the guy and hope he remains in charge and just gets his ACT together, but I don't support him or his decisions anymore (And haven't for awhile as you can tell from my previous posts) and think he's lost the plot somewhat and is too stubborn to admit his faults and fix them!
 
Perhaps because he's been staying too long in Arsenal??
He's been 15 years, right? Is he trying to compete with Ferguson?

Just because his name is Arsene, it doesn't meant he have to stay forever at Arsenal
 
How are some of those youngsters going to recover from that kind of defeat though, I think ability wise Arsenal do have enough to finish top 4 (with a few additions) but mentally I think they might have been pushed over the edge and it could drag them down further.
 
Yeah that's a very good point.

I said it before the season that this could very well be the year that it all goes VERY wrong for Arsenal!

They've been in CL every year for over a decade and along with Lyon and Man Utd and few other clubs are the only ones to have accomplished this impressive feat and for that, they and Wenger deserve great credit!

BUT the way Wenger is structuring this team, it's only a matter of time before they drop out of top 4 and it's already been coming over last couple years.... I wouldn't be surprised if this is the year where Arsenal suddenly finish 6th or 7th or something. Come the end of season, I wouldn't be too surprised if I saw them battling Sunderland and Everton to see who finished 7th let's say...
 
We'll see, a few good results will make a big difference imo

But yeah if we don't get the required result at the Emirates against Swansea, then it could be much harder to get out of the rut.

If Wenger leaves after this season i think we need a manager who is not afraid tu kick your arse if you do something wrong or stupid and that is also one thing that is lacking in our manager!
Have u ever seen Wenger standing on the touch line and yelling?? no!!!!
Pat Rice is doing that job!!And how does the players feel when they se their manager just sitting???
 
Surely if we get rid of Wenger we will need to replace him with somebody who is better and has won things before? like the rest of the team and what everybody is complaining about we are not replacing our experienced players, the same should go for the manager aswell.

I'm not doubting Coyle is a good manager, but if we are going to replace Wenger then we need somebody better and has proved they are better and have recently done better etc.

I still don't want Wenger to leave (could change my mind after this season) but if he does, then we need to get somebody who has been there and done that.....and wants to come to us.
 
first of all you need someone who would re-build you and stay with you for longer period, not a Hidding type of coach..
 
What is a 'hidding' type of coach?

What we need is another quality manager to replace the one we had.

Say we do do badly this season, just getting in a manager that hasn't won anything and hasn't managed in Champs league etc isn't going to fix it. That would just be resigning ourselves to being a team outside of the top 4 or even worse.

Anyway this talk is way too early imo, the season has just started and we have played 3 premiership games with severly depleted teams. Lets see with the next 3 how well we do, then we can start going crazy if we do really badly then.
 
Gutted for Arsenal, and their fans...lots of them here that i really like...
But if you look at it from a neutral point of view, you only lost 3 points...1-0 or 8-2: in the end nothing changes...On top of that you guys played a second eleven. So there is far less lost than meets the eye.

But it ios clear now that Arsenal needs to buy new, good players...who perhaps might be hesitant after this dodgy start..

About man utd, of course they were brilliant, but imo Ferguson made a big mistake (and i siad the same a couple of seasons ago when "my" Spurs team thumped Wigan 9-0). I'll explain myself: Man Utd only won 3 points too with 8-2. Perhaps Ferguson should have restrained his players a litle bit. When Man Utd will visit the Emirates later in the season, they will face an extremely motivated Arsenal team at a time when a loss might hurt more...so strategically this 8-2 win might not be the best thing that could have happened to Man utd. For their fans it must be wonderfull of course.
