Klopp has got CL football since his managed there 5+ years ago and on a much lower budget then wenger.

He also has competed and won league titles piping bayern munich which is no easy thing to do and has been to a CL final and a semi final.

Again, all on a much smaller budget then wenger.

My point is that wenger is an average manager and managers like klopp can do a much better job then wenger.


The thing is bobby, id rather we miss out on CL qualy or the actual competition once in a while in order to come back and win league titles or the CL itself.

the mightly Man united got knocked out on teh group stages with fergie in charge but guess what, a season or two after he won it.

id take that over just being in the competion and same stage for 20 more years.

Different league dofferent circumstances etc etc

You have no idea that he would do well in a different league with different players etc etc

How is klopp doing in the league now? Will he qaulify for the champs league this season?

Did he win the champs league?

You seem to eqaute dropping out of the champions league to having some relation to winning it? That is a strange idea?

If you drop out of the champs league it is harder to get top qaulity players, harder to keep your top qaulity players etc etc easy to not get back into the champs league positions.

You can wish the club doesn't qaulify for the champs league, doesn't win the next game etc in your weird twisted world , I will just keep supporting my team and hope they can do the very best they can each season.

Dortmound have far more injuries then arsenal with an unsettled squad always torn appart my bayern buying there best players every season.

Although when it was happening to Wenger he still managed to get us into 4th at least and into the champs league.
 
Also I just had a quick look and Dortmund spent around $40m on players recently, not exactly the pocket change you are making out he is spending?

Also spent 17m on Reus the Year before....

They also seem to have 4-5 of their first 11 players injured like us.....

We have a long way to go this season, but getting half our first team back from injury will help us alot.

If you must know, that screenshot was taken by a friend of mine just 2-3 days before the match. He is a member in the queue to be a season ticket holder.

If the word "crisis" bothers you so much and you think is an exaggeration, just think about this stat revealed after the defeat to United: at 8th, Arsenal had the worst start to the league in 32 years.

I think you're downplaying the importance of this moment in Wenger's career. If you think we're talking sensationalist bullshit here, maybe I should get more "graphical":

This coming from the away fans says a lot. I don't know about you, but this looks like a bit of a crisis to me.

Remember, I'm on the same side as you. I want Arsenal to start racking up as many wins in a row they can to get away from this bad patch.

I don't like to increase panic by sounding the "crisis" alarms in vain or abusing the meaning of the word. But it is what it is man. If even the amazing support of the away fans manifest like they did... Oh well.
 
See our 'crisis' means differen thigs then, being 6points from 2nd in the league, qaulifying for the next round of he Champs league and having a nearly full stadium for a chamls league is one of the worst Crisis I have ever seen!!!! It's terrible!!! :ROLL:

Again I will make my own decision based on what I know and see.

The fact that somebody would make a banner like that and humiliate a guy that puts his heart into our club and has turned our club into a powerful club in the world is just fucking terrible imo. I think making a big banner is probably the epitomy of sensasionalist bullshit. I am sure Wenger is very clear that alot of supporters don't want him to continue, he is a smart man, he doesn't need a bunch of dickheads making a banner.

The first season our financial restraints were lifted (last season) we were top of the league for a very long time and we won the FA cup. The second season (this season) we have had half our team out injured and we are not doing so well but still qaulifying for the the next round of champs league and not far from 2nd in the league.

Since the financial restrictions were lifted we brouht in two world class players for record fees and we have in my opinion one of the most balanced first 11s I have seen at Arsenal for a while.

So yes saying that he has lost the plot and we are in a crisis is just VERY exagerated imo and I just can't accept it.
 
Got to agree with Bobby here, i would love to see in a "crisis" like this. We would be over the moon if we had the same results.


Rentboy, i appreciatie you, but your post has something glory hunter-like. Football should be like this: with ups and downs. You appreciatie the ups much more if you have lived the bad times.

But i see that fans of clubs like Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool think their club will always be up there, the way nowadays football is organized.


Still, personally i also think Arsene should stop. IMO the magic is gnoe, a change would-be be good for both HIM and the club. And a year later hè dan come back to the Emirates as a spectator or visiting coach and them hè should get what hè deserves: the biggelt standing ovationeel one has ever seen on a football pitch.


Still think he's the most influential coach ever in English football.
 
I was really pissed off at Wenger last weekend, mainly because we yet again couldn't beat United. However, I do not want him to leave.

In saying all of this I am still pissed off with Wenger.

Regarding no defensive backup, the lack of a top class DM that we have been crying out for for an age, his tactical ineptness at times.

There is alot that Wenger does wrong, but I also appreciate what he has done right and is doing right also and I don't want him to leave, I still think he has more to give to the club.

Up until recently I wanted more time for Wenger, but now I'm definitely with the "his time is up" camp.

I just don't agree with being disrespectful to the man, going to the trouble of making that huge banner and taking it to the match.

However, the mistakes he makes are always the same and I'm sick and tired of the same patterns repeating themselves.

As much as we try to soften the blow for this poor campaign, as Bobby does, by pointing at the extensive injury list, that is not an acceptable excuse. If the necessary signings for proper defensive cover were made we wouldn't be in this predicament we're in right now.
With or without injuries, we would be better off with 2 more natural defenders and that's precisely one of the most infuriating things about Wenger: we seem to always be 2 or 3 players away from the ideal squad. It's been like that for ages, and it can't be dismissed as pundits drivel. It really is like that.

In the end, the signings of Sanchez and Ozil don't seem to make up to the fact we leak goals at the back due to lack of personnel and/or ideal replacement of departed players. When I see the same old naivité, the predictability and the recurrent collapses, I say it's enough. Nothing is being learned from our mistakes and we're just stale IMO.

While I definitely understand your view point, quoting a great man do you not think that looking at 'the cow in the other field is more appealing just for the sake of it'

I mean really who would you want to replace him? Klopp who currenlty has Dortmund bottom of Bundesliga, can you imagine if that was Arsenal right now.

He's certainly waning IMO but I don't think you can do much better to be honest.
 
Always being 2-3 players away from a great sqaud and his mistake about defensive cover this season, stagnating etc are valid reasons to not want Wenger around. if people just say that to me I fully understand why they don't want him to continue.

The only things I strongly object to is the 'lost the plot', 'crisis' terms and the Stadium thing and also the people putting banners up, this crap doesn't wash with me.

Again those things piss me off and make me very angry with Wenger, but I still think he is he best man for the job.
 
It's a very complicated issue. The succession has to be well planned instead of an abrupt change. Wenger will leave one day, one way or another. The older he gets, the closer we get to this day.

I don't agree with replacing managers in the middle of a season. It worked for mid-table teams or the ones facing relegation, but I'm afraid it would hurt chances for a team with top 4 aspirations. We wouldn't be able to pull it off like that.

I've heard this before, and it's true: Wenger is the one capable of getting us out of this trouble, so yeah, he is the best short term solution we've got.

The thing is that he always is, he is a very consistent manager after all. When we were in trouble for getting into the top 4 a few times, Late Season Wenger pulled off some miracles. There's that about him always finishing seasons strongly.

If only Summer Transfer Window Wenger and Early Season Wenger were kinder to that Wenger who manages injury hit squads during the December fixture congestion and the Jan-March slump in form... things would be a lot better.

Ultimately, he is his best ally and greatest enemy at the same time.

It's true that the future is uncertain, but with Wenger it is certain: stagnation by the looks of it. Forgive me for saying this, but every time a new season begins and we see the same mistakes, it rings true. No indication of learning with past mistakes whatsoever.

The next manager can be quite good, a breath of fresh air... or it can be shit, let's face it.

Klopp has been a flop indeed, I don't know how it got to be that bad, but how he recovers from that will tell a lot about him, and if he would be fit to one day take over from Wenger.
Anyway, this is just gossip, only because both managers are friendly.
The best managers around have great jobs right now anyway. The richest clubs will always compete for the likes of Guardiola and Ancelotti, and even if we ever landed one of them, they're the kind of manager who stays for about 4 years tops.

Very different from what we grew used to with Wenger.
Anyway, I hope they've been planning for his successor behind the curtains. We need something new and someone capable of taking over really soon.

There's the talk about Henry. He's retiring as a player and they say he might get a coaching role. Could it be that he's been earmarked for this position in 2017 when Wenger's current contract expires?
 
Titi a coach in 2017, I rather Bergkamp ... Titi wil be on the payroll another yes man for the club. A position Veira should of had.

Is it just me or Podolski changed the game again in his few minutes? He looked so lively and opened a lot of rooms. God damn, he need to start.
 
I really don't get everybody with this game, on BT sports.

I thought we played much better than Southampton, had the much better chances.

But everybody is talking like Southampton played amazing and deserved something from the game?!

Their goalkeeper was man of the match for a reason, because he kept them in the game with a string of saves.

But the pundits say it was comfortable for Southampton until they went down to 10 men?!

How can it have been so comfortable for Southampton if their goalkeeper was man of the match?

Really it dumfounds me when teams seem to get a Handicap on positive comments just because we are assumed to win. So if they manage to not let us score for a lot of time, they make it out as if they are the better team.

I thought we were the best team, had the best chances and tested their goalkeeper much more and we deserved the 3 points in the end.

I hope you're right (we're up next for them), but a wounded animal is a dangerous animal. If they lose against us then their hopes of finishing top 4 are probably gone.

Btw Sanchez is a bargain.
 
That's rubbish. Southampton never was the better team today, although they are a very good team. If you consider how Lalana, Lambert, Shaw, Chambers and even their manager left, they're superb under Koeman.

But today you can't say they were better. I'd like Arsenal to be a lot more objective than we were for some portions of the game. But fortunately this time around Wenger did something about our situation when there was still time to take the game by the scruff of the neck. By introducing Giroud, we had 2 natural centre forwards and they created much more trouble than before. Giroud and Welbeck combined really well for some parts, and you can finally understand why Alexis was deployed behind them: the boy has such an eye for a pass! What a player he is. Even when he's having a lacklustre performance like this one, he still grabs the winner. He's definitely a star player, Sanchez.

Oh, and the injured player forcing them to play with 10 men wasn't the reason we were better. We were all over them before it happened.

@Cesc: no it wasn't just you, I also thought Poldi was hungry as I've never seen him before. Created a great chance for Giroud and showed lots of intent and objectivity - something that goes amiss in most of our attacking style/build up play.

I reckon if Wenger plays Sanchez and Podolski, there's a lot of firepower in there. Both are very keen on long range efforts and that little bit of individualistic urge that we need. We can't just keep passing the ball around like robots and that's why Sanchez breaks the mould and becomes essential as a game changer.

I'd like to see a bit of Campbell too. Why on earth isn't Wenger giving him a chance? I'd like to see him start a game and see how he behaves. I think the kid's got a cheeky quality about him, I'd love a bit of that in our attacking play.

Let's take this win as a very good one, gunners. Southampton aren't pushovers, this wasn't an easy fixture by any means and they have the best defense in the league, that sums it up.

PS: Frazier Forster is the man we should have brought in instead of Ospina. Just saying. I was impressed by him since his Celtic days.

This is not a real surprise. Any well drilled Premiership team can take us apart on a good day.

We've got a few youths in there: Martinez, Bellerin, Chambers at CB...

I don't blame any of them individually.
The manager is at fault for allowing us to be in this predicament.

If we ger battered by this Stoke side it would be one of the lowest points in Wenger's career.

PS: Gibbs didn't even bother to attempt a block on that cross for their 2nd. Not even a half hearted stretch of the leg. This is disgusting to see.
