Manchester United Thread

This draw feels like a win haha. Schweini and Martinez out for 2nd leg huh? Dare I say we have a minute chance in Munich?

They haven't won any of last 4 matchs in their home vs English teams , so why not you should think positive also give Moyes a new 10 years contract now :)

I think United is changing... Changing for better. I saw that in the last 3 games and as a football fan i hope that what i am telling is true. I think in the next season they will get a lot better, even if Moyes stay. ;)

Surprised by the result, not the performance. Moyes is kind of used to this type of game - bein the 'plucky underdog'.

Think a lot of our better performances are because the RVP injury has allowed Moyes to play a more cohesive XI.

Quite agree

I've watched every match for years - we're better this year when only one of RVP or Rooney is on the pitch, playing as a striker.

I'm not saying RVP isn't a great player - he is - but Moyes/Ferguson hasn't been able to work out a system that both Rooney and RVP together.

What were Bayern doing? Who draws at Old Trafford these days?
I almost want Utd to go through now as punishment for such a sorry, purposeless performance. Utd should have won 2-1, maybe even 3 with Welbeck's high boot being on the cusp.

Bayern were just joking around. Wait til the next leg.

Also, the sight of Pep f*cking Guardiola accusing someone of diving...I have no words.

and he added "To win the Champions League you have to overcome everything, so at times during the competition that happens." no surprise he's a barcelona man after all.

watch bayern get a penalty around 20th min mark and you get a red at allianz if you manage not to screw up yourselves until then.

You are totally right.

We shall win.

Robben accused Mutd of using a handball team tactic.I don't understand that concept.

I think it was some reference to how defensive we were. Presumably Robben thinks we should have opened ourselves up more, allowing him and his team to thoroughly whip us.

I thought Rooney "exagerrated" the contact, tbf. Not too bothered since I've seen many clubs, including Guardiola's teams do it as well but at least Guardiola was respectful after the game despite almost being goaded into calling us a negative team by at least one journalist.

Too much sterile domination though, Bayern needed to stretch us more and the bringing on Mandzukic and going more direct was the right thing to do.

Pleased that Welbeck played well against another European giant, despite the missed chip. If there is one keeper you don't want to try and be too smart against it is Neuer.

Back to the important things: rumours are that Bebe is an outside pick for the WC, and is going to be among the nominees for best young player in Portgual (along with the presumably United-pajama-wearing William Carvalho).

Oh Edwin, always classy:

I am Portuguese, so I see William Carvalho playing all the time and trust me he is fantastic!

Excellent, if you believe the press he's our number 1 target in the summer :)

ARGH - apparently Rooney has broken himself, and might even miss the World Cup.

Is this season over yet?

rooney injured and missing world cup is karma for his dive which got schweinsteiger sent off.

great news for england if true.

Care to elaborate?

rooney has been awful for england but gets selected no matter how shite he plays, if he is injured he can't play and someone superior will play, so with rooney not in the team we have a better chance to progress to the last 16 of the WC.

England as a team have been shite for a long time now, meaning most of the players are playing badly. Rooney just gets the stick because he's supposed to be the team leader, I get that.

But I don't get how England have a better chance to progress without their best forward in the team. Who is superior - Sturridge? Yes, he's the in-form player of the two, but all in all Rooney is the better and more experienced footballer. Rooney isn't the problem for England, no player himself is. And you shouldn't blame him for being selected because of his massive contributions at United over the past decade.

Take a look at the bigger picture and don't point fingers at a single person. Football is a team sport, innit?

Yeah, that was definitely the reason it was a yellow. Nothing to do with a foul that ruined a counterattack. Rooney shouldn't have rolled around, but Bastian took him out after Rooney had played the ball to a teammate, and was trying to get up the field. It's a yellow all day long.

And yes, England should definitely look to be playing without their 4th highest ever scorer, and the English player with the most combined goals/assits this season. That sounds eminently sensible. Let's start Jay Rodriguez instead, because he plays for a team behind Rooney's, has less goals, less assists, less key passes and had a massive 1 international cap to his name. But it's totally cool to say how awesome Southampton are, and they look great on Match of the Day, so woohoo, football hipsters rejoice.
