Manchester United Thread

individually he may not be a top level player but he's surely a top finisher. think he'd be the perfect complementary part for appropriate teams, those have many highly creative playmakers/wingers around the striker. and, actually united is such a club atm... :S

He's not good enough technically to be a regular starter at a big club.

Such a likeable character though and I'd be devastated if he left but I wouldn't blame him.

He has always been at his best as a true striker. His movement, instincts and ability to do the right thing near the goal is what he's best at. He's best when he doesn't really have to think about what he's doing, and can react to a situation.

Now that he's going to be captain for the forseeable future, I really hope we allow playmakers to play as playmakers (Mata/Kagawa) and forwards play as forwards (Rooney).

Couldn't agree with this anymore. You see how much more comfortable the likes of Mata and Kagawa are when Rooney isn't trying to constantly hog the ball from midfield.
 
Nani's agent came out and said that he's leaving this summer. But he did mention how most clubs in Serie A will not be able to pay his wages, but something similar to Anderson's deal may happen
 
Wow, Moyes trusting Kagawa to start at Bayern. Huge moment for him personally, though I doubt he'll see enough of the ball to make much of an impact.

But, it would be so encouraging to think that Moyes might have learned from the past 2 domestic matches that Shinji is actually rather talented.

Bayern seem to be very much up for it, not a single defensive midfielder, it will be probably Gotze and Kroos in the middle, both attacking midfielders. :CONFUSE:
 
Gutless from Moyes. Subbing fletcher just so he can keep Rooney on the pitch when he's been poor.
 
I'm fine with this. We've shown some guts, and actually should have been ahead of Rooney was fully on form. But Bayern are excellent, and we've certainly not shamed ourselves.

Evra being loose defensively is obviously nothing new - he gave up defending 2 seasons ago. We need and have needed a new LB for over a year.

Our midfield couldn't cope - again, not news - we desparetly need a new midfield.

Our manager isn't good enough - obviously - and now we can get to the important part of this season. #MoyesOUT.

Good news is Phil Jones has been wonderful, and Kagawa played.
 
I just can't believe that after 18 consecutive seasons, we will not be in Europe next season...It will be very hard to get the talent that we need this summer now (horrible domestic season, no Champions League or Europa League, manager that doesn't have the backing of fans nor much tactical knowledge)....I think we're up for a few seasons in the 6-8 spot before things will turn around

or am i too pessimistic after a loss which we can't really complain too much about? I thought the guys did great to fight and Bayern were just more superior in their play, their tactics, their manager, etc
 
Even in the last 15 minutes we nicked a goal we were right back in it but the players looked so helpless and unmotivated and where does that stem from?
 
Our future will be decided by the c*nts who bought us and have siphoned off $1bn from our football team in a decade. That's the scary part.

If our marketing machine keeps functioning at a reasonable level despite being 6th or 7th, they have no incentive to spend on new players, facilities or managers. Literally none. The Glazers do not care about football, they do not care about Manchester United and they do not care about fans. They care about EBITDA - and Manchester United has been excellent to them in that regard, and will likely continue to be.

Moyes is cheap. His tactics can be done with cheap players. It's a match made in heaven.

Until the 75k stop going, season ticket sales dry up and most importantly Nike, Chevy and whoever the f*ck our pot noodles sponsor is stop spending there will be no change.

Football is one of two things these days: A loss making vanity project of a spoiled elite or a small sized business struggling to make a profit.

lol he was quite useless, even more useless than normal, but i will try and be fair cos maybe his toe is still crippled but if that's the case maybe hernández should of started instead.
 
Back home today just hours before the game (missed last weeks first leg as I left that morning)

Thought we did OK, Valencia actually looked decent :SHOCK: Expected end result though, the gap in quality was far too big to overcome.
 
Moyes was and will never will be cut out to be a man Utd manager. HE hasn't got it in him.

It's interesting seeing the number of LFC fans writing into sites like The Guardian and F365 saying United will really struggle to get back into the Top 4 next year.

If we keep Moyes I totally agree, we're screwed. He'll try to make it hard for other teams to play at OT. Great.

But. If we get in a real, proven manager I see no reason why we should not be 'in and around (!)' 4th place.

If we assume that LFC's success isn't a one-off (and more importantly that Real don't get Suarez) then I'll include them with CFC and MCFC as being just better, and they'll likely outspend us in the summer. But that leaves one spot for:

Everton: Whose record without their team of loanees is poor, and who presumably won't have them next year. Who have less finances to attract talent, and surely most of Europe would view 4th place (if they pip Arsenal) as a one-off

Arsenal: If they drop out of the top 4, are they any different from United, except United won the league less than a year ago, and have consistently performed better in trophy competitions? Similar abilities to spend

Spurs: I really thought 4th was theirs with the squad they built, but turns out having one Bale really is worth more than 7 other dudes. Who knew. Are they a bigger draw? Are they more likely to do another squad overhaul?

United: Serious issues, likely to be a lot of squad change and it's for sure a risk. But, they maintain the highest revenue in the prem (easily, even without the CL) have the biggest, fullest stadium, the best pedigree int he last quarter century and the biggest name.

Why is it that everyone assumes United is going to be the team of those 4 that will struggle, and not the others? Is it just the sheer, unadulterated joy most English fans are shuddering over from schadenfreude?
 
I don't think Moyes is entirely to blame here. Instant success is very rare and the squad was aging. Making huge changes directly after being emplyed is also a classic mistake, so all in all I don't think Moyes had a whole bunch of options when he took over. By all means this squad could probably do better but it isn't frighteningly strong either.

I am fairly certain that Manchester United would benefit in the long run by holding on to Moyes.
 
Utd will challenge for the title next year. They'll be in the same boat Liverpool have been in this year - no CL distraction - and will spend massively in the summer. That should be enough even with Moyes.

For the next few years, if Liverpool aren't a one season wonder (which I doubt), there will be at least one big team missing out on the CL every year. It should be great viewing.

Liverpool will need to invest a lot if they want to put in another title challenge whilst playing CL football again.

Spurs are an interesting case. They have quite a few good players. Soldado, Lamela, Erikson, Paulinho, Dembele, Townsend, Sandro, Walker, Lloris are a good foundation to work from for a new manager. If that manager is a world class one and they have money to invest in strengthening the defence, they could have a really good season.

Without a doubt the weirdest part of United this season is the away record. It is phenomenal, best in the league and better than it's been in a while for us.

That hints at the 'pressure' of playing at home being too much, or something, or Moyes being more suited to the away games. Hard to explain.

I don't doubt Moyes will get better results next year, but I want him to leave because of the football he plays. Even when we were crap in the late 80's, we were fun and crap. Now we're dull as hell, playing Allardyce football AND not getting results. That's unacceptable.

We could look from the other side, out of the 3 teams to miss out this year and Arsenal (I'll go for Everton, Spurs and Utd) who looks ATM to be most likely to compete for 4th;

Arsenal in pole position, good squad and a lot of money with them finally spending some of it. Dont look like dropping down, and might actually buy some players who dont get injured for half the season.

Then I would say Spurs if they get Van Gaal, they still have a good young squad but have messed up this year by buying too many players and not giving AVB time.

Then Utd, Moyes might grow into the role but it will remain solid and there seems to be no indication that he will offer anything to beat the top4 teams. Just spending money wont help when you have a manager who, as your new 65mil midfield is showing, needs injuries to change a team of big ego's. The 1st team will lose its defense this summer with not a lot in back up. Strikers are getting on with not a lot in back up either. And we dont know whether they will spend a lot this summer. If they get a decent manager in and a 100mil transferfund I expect them to be right up there again.

Then Everton, half the team are loanees and they wont have the money to buy anyone.

I think Liverpool will struggle for 4th next season. Thin squad, and if Spurs and Utd get their act together look like the team to drop back out.
 
We're so most definitely stuck with Moyes through Christmas at the earliest. This will serve as the lesson to the Glazers that longevity is not the key to success, being really f*cking good at your job is.

We'll spend a bit over the summer, I'd wager Moyes will get up to $150m total spent (including Fellaini and Mata) and we'll be 6th/7th at Chrismtas, still playing dire football and 'trying our bestest'. Then the owners will finally cave, put Dave out of his misery and buy a coach that has won something.

That's when we'll start moving forward again. Pretty depressing, but is what it is.
 
Next season we will see lots of bad transfers (always the case after a WC, clubs by players who emerge at a WC, and lots of them are one offs).
The club who makes the least transfer mistakes will be a top four club.

That's actually a really good point. My sincerest hope is that Moyes and Eddy have already sorted everything, and signings will be made before the WC.
