Re: Serie A Thread - 2010/11 Season
2 things are pretty clear after cordoba's interview, imo.
the first one is that mario MUST leave. at this point it doesn't even matter what moratti, branca or even benitez think. when the team isolates a player like this, there's no turning back.
yeah i know, that's not the first time an inter player publicly blames balotelli,
but that's the first time it happens after mourinho's departure. up until mourinho was in charge, inter players' comments had to be interpretated differently (a player usually doesn't contradict his coach)..... but now there's no mourinho anymore... therefore josè has nothing to do with cordoba's comment..... therefore the obvious consequence is that balotelli's presence in the dressing room is not accepted anymore by his teammates.
and when this situation occurs, there's really no other choice than selling the player (as rfu said, it doesn't matter how good the player is.... that's a matter of dressing room balance).
the second thing that comes into my mind reading that comment, is that there are some serious hierarchies issues at inter.
a player should NEVER say such things about one of his teammates in front of a microphone, NEVER! it doesn't matter how much of a problem balotelli is. cordoba is not allowed to talk like this. that's unacceptable.
the dressing room hierarchy and the club's hierarchy are 2 separate things. inside the dressing room cordoba is a "more important" element than mario. cordoba is older, he has more experience and he's one of the dressing room leaders. so he can certainly blame balotelli
inside the dressing room.
but outside the dressing room, cordoba is an inter employee just like balotelli. according to the club's hierarchies, cordoba and balotelli are exactly on the same level. both of them are employees, none of them is a director and none of em is allowed to talk on the club's behalf. cordoba shouldn't be allowed to talk like this. branca can, moratti can..... a player cannot!
if the whole team doesn't want mario anymore, then the captain (zanetti) should meet moratti and tell him "mario has become too much of a problem. no one wants him here anymore. so, for the sake of the team as a whole, i suggest u to get rid of him"
that's how things should go.
what's more worriyng is that this is not even the first time. other players (i remember only materazzi, but other players did that too) already did this last season.
if cordoba would have been the first inter player to act like this, then i wouldn't worry about it, as i would think "ok now branca is gonna scold him and warn the rest of the team not to blame any other teammates in public anymore".
but since this is not the first time, that means that the club didn't react when materazzi did the same thing last year (otherwise cordoba wouldn't have repeated the same mistake).
that is a serious management issue. it must always be very clear in the players' minds that they're not in charge in the club. and if the club doesn't react when a player does what cordoba did (or what materazzi did last season), then u're sending a very dangerous message to your players. this is not good management AT ALL.
whenever an inter player complains about balotelli in front of a microphone, inter loses leverage on a possible negotiation. every possible buyer now knows mario is not wanted by his teammates and cordoba's interview alone decreased mario's value on the market and inter's bargaining power. this is not acceptable.

But where's Mario's family in all this? Mario needs a some kind of father figure or big brother to to give him some guidance and direction. Instead he's wondering around aimlessly giving the finger to everyone.
exactly! mourinho sure made some mistakes with mario... but that's nothing compared to the huge mistakes his family is making. his mother, his father and his brother shouldn't defend him "no matter what". they should discipline him.... and clearely they're not.
i don't think raiola is to blame in this case. he's clearely a cunt, but mario had issues even before raiola became his agent. his family instead is responsible just as much as mario himself.
