The Retro-PES Corner

Bro I have played FL26 with Hollands simulation gameplay....yeah it all looks good....playing the game feels ok...but as soon as i start playing WE8LE its like I am 110% more focused and just way more into the game. My final verdict will always be...PES21 will always be a beautiful woman that lacks character, depth and soul.

2004/2005 was a year that best sports games were made.

1 ESPN NBA 2K5 - best basketball game of all time. - PS2

2. ESPN NFL 2K5 - best American Football Game of all time. PS2

3. EA's MVP Baseball 2005 - PS2 - widely regarded as one of the best sports games of all times.

4. PES4/5 and other variants - greatest football games ever.

Just unreal

I bought a new PC 2 years ago and most of the time i found myself playing old games, with an exception to maybe 2 newer titles like Cyberpunk,Yakuza series and Battlefield.

It is really depressing in someway that the most genuine era of games (and sports games especially) was during the PS1-PS2 cycle, of course there are a few great games in the PS3/360 era like NBA2K11, FIFA 11-13, PES 2010-2013 but even then these franchises slowly started to lack that indentity and atmopshere. Most sports games that are treated by the community as the best ones are mostly from the early-mid 2000's. It might sound cringy or cliche but i really thing back then majorite of the dev team behind these games were actually passionate about the sport they made games about.

A few examples of games that are still unbeatable by modern titles:

- NBA 2K11 - propably the only exception here, but luckilly it was my first basketball game
- ESPN NFL 2K5- even though im not interested in american football, i saw a few video esssays about how it special it is.
- Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4 - The AI in this game and the physics are still hard to beat.
- Richard Burns Rally - Same as above physics wise.
- Nascar Racing 2003 - a more obscure title, especially in Europe, but the racing experience thanks to physics, AI and love of the motorsport makes it still hard to beat to this day.

Of course we could talk about other games from other genres that absolutely rocked during the 2000"s but i wanted to stay in the sports genre lol

I 'have' WE Aoki 2014 for 3DS, purely because it's the only other title outside of PS3 that had J.League included. It confuses me to this day why they never included J.League in the PSP version, but I'd guess they just didn't have the space for it.

In fact, I scored this peach of a goal on it 😋 >>

On WE 2014 Aoki on PSP there's J-league mate ;) Now about translations, i don't think there's a patch for it. The modding community are locked on PS2 versions.... But there's no Aoki 2014 version on PS2.
And WE 2014 was the very last game out on PS2 just for the anecdote.
I brought the PS3 version, and found a simple option file for kits and reals names but there's no created teams. It's not that different than the latest patch on PES 2014 but as always J-league is well represented. Except, as it was the "next-gen" version there's missing all the jap stadiums you can found on others versions (that time they struggled to create stadiums, as Kojima left them with FOX engine on their hands like a goodbye gift but without the notice)

I know I am going to bore some people to death but man I can't get of enough WE8LE.

What makes this game so special
Was a big fan at the time. A bit less now.
Probably the mix between Pes4 freedom while dribbling at least and the good attack/def balance, the dynamism make that game very cool.

It's probably the most enhanced "Final/Liveware Evolution" final version of a game basis. PES 4 is not only debbuged but transformed.

Hi All,

I am really considering getting back into PES 5 once I am done with my current PES 21 ML.

It was by far one of my favourite games of the PS2 area.

However, I am not sure how up to date some of the option files are. I know PES 2008 has a 25/26 OF but does anyone know if an up to date OF for PES 5 exists please?

I had a mooch around the PES 5 forum but as far as I could tell everything was original season.

Appreciate any help/advice 👍🏻

I'm pretty sure PES 6 is the one that still has an active community supporting it, not PES 5... I'd go for it, if I were you. If I remember correctly, PES 6 is a much better game overall (in terms of gameplay) than 5. I played it to a pulp on my old Ps2.

I loved PES 6 too, I just remember PES 5 felt a bit more tactical and had a better weight to the game. You can’t go far wrong with most of the PS2 era PES/WE games 👍🏻

I never really understood why PES 6 has such a bigger community and 100 billion patches yet PES 5 is a better game with less material..
If I am was not doing such big amount of installers for existing patches, trying also to save them for history ... and helping to community
Both games are cool, but in it's own way.

Do you mind me asking where it is? Is it a patch or something? I had a look & can't find it, and I noted too that the J.League logo isn't on the PSP cover art, hence my earlier comment.

This is all I see in game (no option to choose J.League teams)

Welcome to PES. PES 19, PES 20 (yes, even the DEMO) had better gameplay than PES 21... And yet, here we are.

any make list with japanase games versions for ps2 i which is the best?
is better than pc games (e.g. we9le)?
From my own point of view yes there are
Start with J-League winning eleven 2010 and Jlwe2009 as a good start for playing actual good games in terms of content, graphics and gameplay

Then go with j league winning eleven 9 ( the game that have most content in my opinion)

Then go with the ultimate BOSS j league winning eleven 2008 and prepare yourself to get addicted and actually enjoy this especially the gameplay 😅

I really wished one day they can combine j league winning eleven 2010 and aoki samurai no chousen 2010 it would have been a really great game , and never understood why they stopped j league series , pes 2011 was visually a very good game and also 2012 and 2013 were the god tier list of this era , and they continued to ps2 , never understood why there's no j league we2011/2012/2013/2014 on ps2/psp
And also I can't understand why no j league on PSP version ??
A lot of "why" with konami we will never have the answer

which game has english language patch
why is 2008 better than 2010

I think all of them have English translation thanks to some awesome people here
2008 is not "better" than 2010, all of them are amazing but 2008s gameplay and the computer or "ai" is more to a human 😅

I'd like to recommend you also j league dlc for winning eleven 2013 and 2012 (japanese version of pes) if you have PS3 or ps3 emulator

Does anyone have JLWE9AC ISO with a wide screen patch
I have one but it also zooms players out during gameplay. Not much, but it still does.
On top of that, it also includes some modifications to the game itself (like real emblems and names for the teams).

If you only want a widescreen patch (given that on modified ISOs like the ones that come with a translation the widescreen .pnach files are a little hit and miss), the best way to do it is to extract the executable file from the ISO (with 7-zip or Game Graphic Studio), modify it with Super Camera Editor then re-import it in the ISO (with Game Graphic Studio or with ImgBurn).

Somehow each "final" game of its generation is the one that gets more love.
PES 6, PES 2013 and now PES 2021 all are the most modded of their own generation.

I agree that there are games that out of the box for me are better than those (I tend to prefer the second-to-last ones, if the term makes sense... PES 5, PES 2012 and PES 2020) but I also believe that it's somehow "normal" that once a new game is released most of the modding moves towards it... And when a game is the last of its cycle, well, the modding "stays" there.

To be fair, though, PES 5 still gets its fair amount of modding also nowadays (OK, not even close to what PES 6 gets, but... Still much more than PES 4 or PES 2012 for example).

I have to say that @Sany023's work preserving hundreds upon hundreds of PES 6 installers is something to be truly admired.
In fact, it is legendary work!! :RSCARF:When we look back at all the installers he's created over the years, it's undoubtedly the biggest preservation project I've seen, not to mention the new patches that are continuously being made!
You are a true legend, bro! :TU:

if some one search a translated version (Eng text) of Winning Eleven 10 Liveware Evolution (korea only - PS2):

Download...

I deleted by error my copy, so I had to search it again...

This was the real latest gameplay evolution by konami for WE10/PES6 serie

Judging from the title screen background, I'd speculate that WE10LE is an adjusted version built upon WEPES2007, which has less demanding shooting angle requirements compared to PES6.

I've never tried Winning Eleven 10 LE to be honest, it looks like this is a good time to.
Seriously, I'm getting back and forth between the "new" games I found (JLWE2008CC, JLWE9AC, WE8LE) and I'm currently having a lot of fun.
I think that the one of them I've been enjoying the most is JLWE9AC for now, but WE8LE comes really close (and it features the 04/05 season which is my favourite ever).

(on a side note: I've spent countless evenings with these games and many more are to be spent in the future. If my wife hadn't been a gamer herself, she'd have already applied for divorce by now honestly)
